Description
The Nicolaus Copernicus monument in Toruń is one of the city's most recognizable symbols. The bronze statue of the famous astronomer, unveiled in 1853, depicts him in an academic robe, holding an astrolabe and pointing to the sky.
The monument stands on a granite pedestal with a Latin inscription: 'Nicolaus Copernicus of Toruń, moved the Earth, stopped the Sun and the Sky'. The ornament is a small well with a dolphin's head from which water gushes.
It's the perfect place to take a souvenir photo while visiting the Old Town. It is worth combining viewing the monument with a visit to Copernicus' family home or the Toruń Planetarium.
