Description
Křivoklát Castle is one of the oldest castles in the Czech Republic, dating back to the 12th century. Its rich history and impressive Gothic architecture will delight any medieval lover.
The castle hides real treasures - a Gothic chapel with an altar dating back to 1490 and statues of the 12 apostles, a library with more than 53,000 volumes, and three prison chambers with instruments of torture, including the famous Iron Maiden.
A young Charles IV, later Roman Emperor, was imprisoned within the castle's walls, and despite his traumatic memories, he often returned here in his adult life.
