Description

Termas da Ferraria is a unique thermal spa on the west coast of São Miguel Island.

It's a magical place where warm geothermal waters mingle with the cold Atlantic, creating natural pools with temperatures exceeding 30°C. These waters, derived from underwater volcanic activity, have therapeutic properties, alleviating the symptoms of rheumatic and skin diseases.

The complex offers not only bathing in natural pools, but also professional spa treatments and massages. From the observation deck you can enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean and basalt cliffs, especially beautiful during sunset.

avatarZach Bisek3 weeks agoIf you are in the area, it is a must do. The water is perfectly heated. You can take a quick dip, or stay for awhile and bring your lunch and get some sun. You can also explore the volcanic coves around the beach area. For those really worried about safety might want to stay home...but there are lifen guards on duty too.
avatarMichael Quigley3 months agoBasically a thermal bath were there are hot springs flowing into a small ocean inlet. It was a worthwhile experience I enjoyed. Note however the water is quite chilly despite the hot springs and more so as you venture further out towards the ocean. The water is not very deep and the bottom is a mix of gravel and boulders but deep enough to swim. There are some ropes set up in the water you can hold on to as the waves come in. Reasonable mobility and strength is required to access and exit the pool however as you basically need to walk across some lava fields and then up and down some rocks and boulders. Aqua socks or similar can be quite useful but it can be done barefooted. There are a small mens and womens changing hut and washrooms between the main pavilion by the parking lot and the pools. There is quite a large parking lot on site and a small restaurant bar in the pavilion.
avatarJosh Reillya week agoVery neat place, need to drive all the way to the bottom the park, and walk around the white building to get to the area. Don't go if you can't swim
