Description

Custer State Park is a vast 71,000-acre nature reserve in the Black Hills, where herds of nearly 1,300 bison, deer, pronghorn antelope, and mountain goats roam freely.

The heart of the park is picturesque Sylvan Lake, surrounded by granite boulders—an ideal spot for canoeing and rock climbing. Wildlife Loop Road is an 18-mile route where bison often block the road, creating unforgettable encounters with wildlife.

Trails lead to Black Elk Peak, the highest point between the Rocky Mountains and the Pyrenees, with a stone observation tower dating back to 1938.
