Description
Stambolov Bridge is a spectacular suspension bridge from the late 19th century, connecting the center of Veliko Tarnovo with the hill of Sveta Gora, 37 meters above the Yantra River.
Built by Italian architect Giovanni Mussuti and a Viennese company, it is one of the first modern bridges in Bulgaria. Its history is full of fascinating events - in 1932, pilot Petko Popganchev flew his plane under the arch of the bridge, which has never been repeated!
The bridge offers breathtaking panoramic views of the old town and the river valley.
