Description
Intaka Island is a 16-hectare wetland reserve and bird sanctuary tucked away in the heart of Century City. The name 'Intaka' means 'bird' in the Xhosa language, which perfectly captures the essence of this place.
The reserve delights with its diversity - over 120 species of birds, including rare and migratory ones, and 180 native fynbos plants. Seven different habitats create a unique ecosystem where you can encounter the malachite kingfisher, the white-bellied cormorant, or the sacred ibis.
There are two wheelchair-accessible walking trails (1 km and 2 km), two bird watching points, and 45-minute boat trips through the canals and wetlands. The Eco-Center showcases sustainable living practices, and the Kids Club offers year-round nature activities for children.
