Description

The Basilica of St. Dmitri in Thessaloniki is one of the oldest and most important churches in Eastern Europe, dating back to the 5th century.

This five-nave temple impresses with its early medieval mosaics, including the oldest from the 5th century depicting St. Dmitri receiving children.

In the crypt beneath the church are the remains of the Roman baths where, according to legend, St. Dmitri suffered his martyrdom. The UNESCO-listed site attracts both lovers of history and Byzantine architecture, offering an unforgettable cultural experience in the heart of the old city.
