Description
The Headington Shark is an unusual sculpture depicting a 7.6-meter shark stuck headfirst into the roof of a house in Headington, a district of Oxford.
Created in 1986 by sculptor John Buckley and commissioned by radio presenter Bill Heine, it is a symbolic protest against the nuclear war and the bombing of Libya.
Installed on the 41st anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki, this 200-kilogram fiberglass structure has become an iconic anti-war symbol and one of Oxford's most distinctive attractions, attracting lovers of art, history and unusual sights.
