Description

Petersfield Heath & Pond/Lake is a unique 5000-year-old heathland with a 22-acre lake, ideal for a family vacation.

This place delights with its rich history - there are 21 Bronze Age barrows, which are a monument of national importance. In summer, you can rent rowboats and enjoy nature, watching kingfishers or grebes.

There is a playground for the little ones, and after an active vacation, visit the Plump Duck cafe. The site also hosts the annual Taro Fair, a festival that was originally a horse market.

avatarPaul Briley2 months agoHeath and pond have much to offer for everyone. Fairly even path surrounds the pond allowing pushchairs, wheelchairs access to the pond. Numerous seats along the path with views over the pond. A small cafe is situated at the town end right next to the playground. Playground fenced off so no access to dogs. There are also some picnic tables. Boating is possible on the pond in the summer months. The heath can seem a world away from the pond. The pond path can get very busy at weekends and fine weather days throughout the year. The heath is grass on sand which makes it accessible throughout the year even during the wettest times. The surface paths are uneven though some of the wider paths take pushchairs without much effort. There are also benches dotted across the heath too. There are 2 free carparks at each end of the heath. There is also plenty of parking on many of the roads adjoining the heath.
avatarMegan Ha month agoLove this place. We regularly travel 40 mins to get here. The waterside water is just the right length walk for short toddler legs and can be accompanied by a trip to the cafe for an ice cream, light bite, or duck food. Not to mention the play parks are great fun for kids from about 1 year old up to about 8 years old. There is a sand pit in the smallest play park so bring a bucket and spade. Cycling is also permitted for children under 10 only. There is also a seasonal boat and pedalo hire but at the time we thought it was a bit pricey for us. Pushchair and wheelchair friendly walk. I would definitely recommend.
