Description

The Sintra National Palace is a fascinating historical monument, combining Gothic, Manueline and Mudejar styles. Its roots date back to the 10th century, when it was under Moorish rule before later becoming the residence of Portuguese monarchs.

The palace impresses with a wealth of decoration, including unique Spanish-Moorish style tiles and an impressive Hall of Arms with a dome depicting the coats of arms of King Manuel I and his children.

One of the palace's secrets is the so-called Whispering Gallery - a curved corridor where a whisper against the wall can be clearly heard across the room.

avatarDenis Iancua week agoThis is a very nice and peaceful place. Not so popular and advertised like the other favorites in Sintra but definitely worth the time. I like it's simplicity, originality and modesty. The garden is outstanding from any angle. I definitely recommend this attraction!
avatarRui Ribeiroa month agoIconic place of Portugal's cultural history blend, over the different time moments. The part where we realize one building is the junction of many, over time, represents our capacity to understand, integrate and find ways to unite the location with all the several different cultures and habits. It really needs attention and time to truly appreciate it.
avatarHerald Gjura2 months agoSintra is such a great place to visit. I spent two days here, and there is so much to visit I could not see it all. The national palace is close to the historic centre, and you can go there walking. Unless you have some impediment, it is about 5 min walk and a couple of flight of stairs. Not to be confused with Pena Palace, which is in top of the mountain and you need to take a bus to get there. It is the historic place of the kings of Portugal and it has so much history and tradition in it. It can be seen from the town with its distinctive two towers. Which in reality are kitchen chimneys. A must visit!
