Description
The Zamosc Roundhouse is a unique memorial and museum of martyrdom that was originally part of the fortifications of the Zamosc Fortress.
During World War II, the Rotunda was converted into a Gestapo camp where more than 8,000 people were imprisoned, tortured and executed. Today it is a moving museum documenting the history of the camp and the fate of its victims.
The grounds include a war cemetery, where more than 45,000 people were buried, including soldiers of the Polish Army, the Home Army, the Red Army and Jewish victims. An original door with a German inscription is a poignant testimony to history.
