Description

The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist is one of the most important monuments of Gothic architecture in Torun.

This monumental temple hides extraordinary treasures - the third largest bell in Poland 'Tuba Dei' cast in 1500 and the 13th century baptismal font where Nicolaus Copernicus was baptized.

The interior impresses with Gothic paintings from the 14th century depicting the Crucifixion and the Last Judgment. One of the chapels contains a 16th-century epitaph and an 18th-century monument dedicated to the great astronomer.

It is also interesting to note that the heart of King Jan Olbracht, who died in Torun in 1501, was buried in the cathedral.
