Description

Westerplatte ruins of New Barracks is a symbol of Polish heroism and the beginning of World War II. At this historic site, 180 Polish soldiers resisted 3,000 German attackers for seven days in September 1939.

Built in 1934-1935, the barracks was a modern facility with central heating, medical facilities and radio communications. Today, the ruins are a reminder of the heroic battle and are an important point on the map of Polish history.

There are plans to open a museum in 2026, which will further introduce the history of the defenders of Westerplatte and their steadfast stand in the face of overwhelming enemy forces.

avatarJay Gall4 months agoI got an under from the Center of Gdansk to get here. a must for all WW2 enthusiasts and a great place to see the Baltic coast properly. There’s also affordable souvenir shops selling WW2 stuff.
avatarMartin Palm3 years agoWell kept historical ruins from WWII. Very interesting ruins for anyone interested in history and specifically in WWII history. That shows the struggle that the polish defenders had against the Germans with the building being riddled with bullet holes and signs of bombardment. Has a walkway so you can go inside and see what's left of the building (basement and the collapsed floors) On the outside you can also find a memorial for the soldiers that defended the building.
