Description
Turku Castle is the largest surviving medieval building in Finland, having served as a fortress, granary and prison for centuries.
Founded around 1280, it combines elements of medieval and Renaissance architecture. Visitors can admire the impressive halls, including the King and Queen's Hall, and the circular tower.
The castle hides fascinating stories - it was even a base for pirates in the 14th century! Numerous exhibitions showcase the daily life of the castle's inhabitants, its military history, and the wooden medieval religious sculptures in the Sture Church and Nuns' Chapel.
