Description
The Teutonic Castle in Ketrzyn is a fascinating monument of Gothic architecture dating back to the 14th century. Erected by the Teutonic Order, this massive fortress was home to forty monks, including future grand masters of the order.
After being destroyed in 1797 and 1945, the castle was painstakingly rebuilt in the 1960s. Today it houses the Wojciech Kętrzynski Museum, the Mazurian Horse Gallery and the Municipal Public Library.
The three-winged building without towers impresses with its distinctive brick Gothic elements, pointed windows and unique architectural details that transport visitors to the fascinating world of medieval history.
