Description
Westerplatte ruins of New Barracks is a symbol of Polish heroism and the beginning of World War II. At this historic site, 180 Polish soldiers resisted 3,000 German attackers for seven days in September 1939.
Built in 1934-1935, the barracks was a modern facility with central heating, medical facilities and radio communications. Today, the ruins are a reminder of the heroic battle and are an important point on the map of Polish history.
There are plans to open a museum in 2026, which will further introduce the history of the defenders of Westerplatte and their steadfast stand in the face of overwhelming enemy forces.
