Description

The Sintra National Palace is a fascinating historical monument, combining Gothic, Manueline and Mudejar styles. Its roots date back to the 10th century, when it was under Moorish rule before later becoming the residence of Portuguese monarchs.

The palace impresses with a wealth of decoration, including unique Spanish-Moorish style tiles and an impressive Hall of Arms with a dome depicting the coats of arms of King Manuel I and his children.

One of the palace's secrets is the so-called Whispering Gallery - a curved corridor where a whisper against the wall can be clearly heard across the room.
