Description
The Cat's Head Tower is one of nine surviving defensive towers of the medieval walls of Toruń. Built in the 13th century, it was originally quadrangular or polygonal in shape, and around 1500 it was converted into a circular bastion for better artillery defense.
The tower is named after the legend of the brave cat that defended Torun during the Swedish siege of 1629. Despite its destruction by the Swedes in 1703, it was rebuilt in the 18th century with Gothic bricks.
It is now the headquarters of the Department of Sport and Tourism of the City of Toruń.
