Waterpark Park Bešeňová - a geothermal pearl with Celtic history

Bešeňová is a place with a remarkable history dating back to ancient times. Already the Celts appreciated the healing properties of the local thermal waters, making this region one of the oldest balneological centers in Central Europe. The modern complex was only built in 1993, but quickly became known as one of the best water parks in Slovakia.

What sets Waterpark Park Bešeňová apart is primarily its unique geothermal spring. The water rises from a depth of as much as 1987 meters and reaches a temperature of +60.5°C! Before it reaches the pools, it is properly cooled down to ensure bathing comfort. The richness of the minerals contained in the water - magnesium, sodium, calcium and lithium - has a salutary effect on the skin, musculoskeletal system and urological problems.

The complex offers as many as 16 pools with different purposes and water temperatures ranging from 26°C to 42°C. Four outdoor pools are filled with geothermal water, allowing bathing even in winter, when the air temperature drops well below zero. The view of steaming water contrasting with snow-capped mountain peaks creates a unique scenery.

For adrenaline seekers, there is a water park with numerous slides and an adrenaline park with an observation tower. From its top you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire area, and you can descend using one of the six slides. In addition, the complex offers a pool with artificial waves, which is very popular among families with children.

An interesting fact is a local legend that the thermal waters in Bešeňová have magical rejuvenating properties. According to the legend, an old shepherd who regularly bathed in the hot springs lived to be over 100 years old, retaining his strength and vitality. Although scientifically unproven, the story adds a mysterious charm to the place.

The relaxation center offers a wide range of spa treatments and massages, which perfectly complement the baths in the thermal waters. Especially worth trying is the traditional Slovak herbal massage, using local herbs harvested in the Tatra Mountains, which is a unique experience not available at other complexes.

Waterpark Park Bešeňová is a place where history meets modernity. Price-wise, the facility is in the middle range, offering good value for money. It is worth noting that prices are slightly higher during the winter season, but this compensates for the unforgettable experience of bathing in hot water surrounded by snow.

Vrbov Thermal Park - intimate relaxation in the shadow of the Tatra Mountains

The Vrbov Thermal Park, located in the picturesque village of the same name, is a lesser-known but equally fascinating point on the map of Slovak thermal spas. In contrast to the commercial grandeur of Bešeňová, Vrbov offers a more intimate and peaceful experience, ideal for those looking for authentic relaxation away from the crowds.

The history of Vrbov's thermal springs is fascinating and dates back to the 1960s, when hot springs were accidentally encountered during oil exploration. Local legend has it that the workers drilling the hole were so surprised by the sudden outflow of hot water that they fled in panic, thinking they had reached hell. It was only later that the healing properties of these waters were discovered and decided to put them to use.

The thermal water in Vrbov is extracted from a depth of about 2,000 meters and contains a unique composition of minerals, including sulfur compounds that give it its characteristic smell, but at the same time make it extremely effective in treating skin diseases, rheumatic problems and respiratory ailments. The water temperature at the source is about 59°C and is regulated accordingly in individual pools.

The Vrbov thermal park consists of ten pools with different temperatures (from 26°C to 38°C) and purposes. Particularly noteworthy is the so-called 'sulfur pool', which is a real hidden treasure of the place. Its water contains the highest concentration of sulfur compounds, making it extremely effective in the treatment of psoriasis and other chronic skin diseases. Many local residents come here regularly, treating the baths as a natural therapy.

A unique feature of the thermal baths in Vrbov is their location - the pools offer a spectacular view of the panorama of the High Tatras. A particularly magical experience awaits visitors in winter, when you can soak in the warm water and admire the snow-capped peaks. Local guides tell us that on a clear day you can even spot Gerlach, the highest peak in the Tatra Mountains.

A little-known fact is that there is a small mineral water spring near the thermal baths, from which you can drink for free. According to locals, regular drinking of this water combined with thermal baths is a comprehensive therapy that helps treat many ailments.

Unlike more entertaining complexes, the Vrbov Thermal Park focuses primarily on the health and relaxation aspect. Here you won't find slides or other attractions typical of aquaparks, which is an advantage for many. Silence, tranquility and the healing properties of the water are the main advantages of this place.

In terms of price, Vrbov is the cheapest option among the described complexes, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors. However, it is worth remembering that a lower price does not mean inferior water quality - on the contrary, in terms of mineral composition, the water in Vrbov is one of the richest in Slovakia.

Meander Thermal&Ski Resort in Oravice - combining skiing with thermal baths

Meander Thermal&Ski Resort in Oravice is a true pearl among Slovak thermal complexes, offering a unique combination of active recreation on the ski slopes and regeneration in the thermal pools. Located in the picturesque Orava Valley, at the foothills of the Western Tatra Mountains, it is an ideal place for those who do not want to choose between winter sports and relaxation in the hot springs.

The history of the place is fascinating and dates back to the 18th century, when local shepherds discovered hot springs flowing from the mountainside. According to accounts, a shepherd noticed that his sheep willingly gathered in one place even during the cold winters. When he investigated the place, he discovered a warm spring that never froze. Over time, the place became a local spa, and in the 21st century it was transformed into a modern complex combining tradition and innovation.

Oravice's thermal water is extracted from a depth of about 1,600 meters and has a high calcium, magnesium and sodium content. Its temperature at the source is about 57°C. Interestingly, the mineral composition of the Oravice water is extremely beneficial for people suffering from diseases of the musculoskeletal system - arthritis, rheumatism or back pain. Local doctors often recommend a series of baths in the local waters as a supplement to conventional therapies.

Meander Thermal&Ski Resort offers several thermal pools of varying temperatures, from 30°C to 38°C. The most distinctive feature of the complex is the irregularly shaped outdoor pool, designed to mimic natural hot springs. Surrounded by rocks and vegetation, it creates the illusion of swimming in a wild mountain stream, while in reality it is a fully controlled and safe environment.

A unique feature of Meander Thermal&Ski Resort is its dual-functionality - in winter the complex functions as a ski resort with several slopes of varying difficulty, and after an intense day on the slopes you can recuperate your tired muscles in the thermal pools. This combination is especially appreciated by families, where different members can realize their preferences - some by skiing, others by relaxing in the warm water.

A little-known fact is the existence of the so-called 'Health Path' - a specially designed walking route around the complex, which leads through the forest and along a mountain stream. Along the route there are points with information about the local flora and fauna and the healing properties of the thermal waters. Walking along this path, especially in the early morning when the fog rises over the valley, is an almost mystical experience.

It is also interesting to note that Oravice is home to one of the oldest thermal springs in Slovakia, which has never been fully developed. Known as the 'Old Spring', it flows directly to the surface of the ground in the forest, a few hundred meters from the main complex. The water temperature there is lower (about 25°C), but according to local legends it has special healing properties, especially for eye diseases.

In terms of price, Meander Thermal&Ski Resort ranks in the higher segment, which is justified by its dual functionality and high standard of services. It is worth noting, however, that it offers special packages combining ski passes with pool passes, making it an economical choice for those planning to enjoy both attractions.

All in all, each of the three described thermal complexes offers a unique experience. Waterpark Park Bešeňová impresses with its variety of attractions and rich history, Vrbov Thermal Park attracts with its authenticity and the healing properties of the water, and Meander Thermal&Ski Resort stands out for its combination of active recreation and relaxation. Regardless of your choice, bathing in Slovak thermal spas is an experience that stays in your memory for a long time and to which you want to return.
