Description
Sigmaringen Castle is an impressive fortress built on a rocky hill above the Danube in the Swabian Jura region. Its oldest parts date back to around 1200, and the interiors are stunning with a wealth of ornamentation, frescoes and artwork.
The castle is famous for one of the largest private collections of weapons and armor in Europe, with more than 3,000 pieces on display. It was the residence of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen princely family from the 11th century until the fall of the monarchy in Germany in 1918.
It hosted such notable guests as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Nietzsche. The castle walls offer stunning views of the picturesque surroundings.
