Description

Lincoln Castle is a fascinating historical monument, built by William the Conqueror in 1068 on the site of a former Roman fortress.

It's a place full of secrets and historical treasures - you can see one of the four original copies of the Magna Carta here!

The castle has witnessed many key events in English history, including the Battle of Lincoln in 1141 and the English Civil War.

Over the centuries it has served a variety of functions - from a defensive fortress to a prison. Today it impresses with its distinctive motte and bailey architecture with stone walls dating back to the 11th century and the Lucy and Observatory towers.
