Description
Chepstow Castle is one of the oldest stone fortifications in Britain, built in 1067 shortly after the Norman conquest of Wales.
Situated picturesquely on a limestone cliff above the River Wye, it is resplendent in unique architecture with a twin gatehouse - a revolutionary 12th century design.
The castle boasts the oldest castle doors in Europe, dating back to 1190, as well as a Great Hall with original Norman features. History buffs will also appreciate the Roman building materials used during construction.
