Description
Albrechtsburg Castle is the oldest castle in Germany, built between 1471 and 1524, and is a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture.
This unique building combines Gothic and early Renaissance elements, impressing with its innovative architectural features - vaulted ceilings, spiral staircases and large windows.
The castle is also the cradle of European porcelain - in 1710 Johann Friedrich Böttger founded the first porcelain manufactory in Meissen here.
The castle's terrace offers a picturesque view of the Elbe valley, which in itself is a reward for climbing the hill.
