Žakalj Old Mill

Zakalj Old Mill is a fascinating industrial monument in Rijeka, witnessing the rich industrial history of the region.

This impressive mill, built with the advanced technology of its time, was once a key industrial plant employing more than a hundred people and grinding huge amounts of wheat annually.

After a fire in 1862, it was renovated and enlarged to six stories, reaching 90 meters in length and 25 meters in height.

Today, although in a poor state of preservation, the mill's ruins form a romantic setting, ideal for history and photography enthusiasts.
