Description
The Little Mermaid is an iconic bronze sculpture that has become a symbol of Copenhagen and all of Denmark. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, it was created by Edvard Eriksen in 1913.
Measuring just 1.25 meters, this small figure, sitting on a stone at the Langelinie waterfront, attracts tourists from all over the world. The mermaid's face was modeled after ballerina Ellen Price, while the sculpture's body was posed by the artist's wife, Eline Eriksen.
Despite repeated vandalism, the sculpture has been painstakingly restored and remains a beloved symbol of Danish culture and literature.
