Description
John Lennon Park is a unique place in Havana's Vedado neighborhood, featuring a life-size bronze statue of John Lennon sitting on a bench.
Unveiled on December 8, 2000, the 20th anniversary of the artist's death, it symbolizes Cuba's changing attitude toward the music of The Beatles, which was previously banned in the 1960s.
A security guard can often be seen at the monument, putting round glasses (often stolen by vandals) on the statue at the request of visitors. At the base of the bench is a quote from the song 'Imagine': 'You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one'.
