The Blackfriar

The Blackfriar is a unique pub dating back to 1875, built on the site of a medieval Dominican monastery dating back to 1276.

It is a true gem of Art Nouveau architecture with fascinating sculptures, mosaics and metal reliefs depicting monks during various activities. The interior is stunning with copper reliefs, marble vaults and stained glass windows.

The pub was saved from demolition in the 1960s thanks to a campaign led by poet Sir John Betjeman. Today you can enjoy classic British dishes and a wide selection of beers while enjoying an atmosphere full of history and art.
