Description
St Augustine's Abbey is a fascinating UNESCO monument in Canterbury, testifying to the revival of Christianity in southern England. Founded in 598 by St. Augustine, the abbey was the burial place of Anglo-Saxon kings and the first archbishops of Canterbury.
Visitors can admire the remains of an 11th-century octagonal rotunda and the 14th-century Fyndon Gate - the best-preserved feature of the medieval abbey. A special attraction is virtual reality, allowing visitors to see the abbey as it was in the 16th century.
You can also try on the monks' habits and learn about monastic life through interactive exhibits.
