The Monte Maria Abbey is the highest Benedictine monastery in Europe, located at an altitude of 1340 meters above sea level in the picturesque Val Venosta valley.
This historic complex, dating back to the 12th century, impresses with Baroque architecture with Romanesque elements, including a unique portal and frescoes.
The abbey hides real treasures - in the crypt there is a unique cycle of frescoes dating from 1175-1180, a significant monument to Romanesque art.
