Description
Santuario Beata Vergine della Castagna is a historic sanctuary in Bergamo, dating back to 1310, when the Madonna appeared to a local farmer.
The place impresses with its Baroque stucco work and valuable paintings. The sanctuary was particularly beloved by Pope John XXIII. Legend has it that the name comes from a chestnut tree that Mary ordered to be covered with leaves and ripe chestnuts.
Behind the temple, there is a hiking trail leading through picturesque forests to the Petosino monument.
