Weneckie Mury Bergamo

The Venetian Walls of Bergamo are a 6-kilometer ring of Renaissance fortifications dating back to 1561, which have never been conquered in battle. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, they surround the picturesque Upper Town with 14 bastions, 4 monumental gates, and underground tunnels.

Built by the Venetian Republic at the cost of demolishing over 250 buildings, they are a masterpiece of military architecture. A walk along the walls offers breathtaking views, and gates such as San Giacomo and Sant'Agostino hide museums and stories of ancient defenses.
