Description
New Fancy View Point is a unique location offering a spectacular 360 degree view of the Forest of Dean. Located on the site of a former coal mine (in operation from 1852-1944), it combines natural beauty with industrial heritage.
The site features a fascinating Geomap - a 2008 sculpture depicting the geology of the region and the locations of 102 coal mines, 35 iron mines and 49 quarries.
It's an ideal spot for watching birds of prey, including hawks, and the starting point of the 5-mile mining trail. There are picnic areas and biking trails for families.

Kevin Arscott (The Walking Kev)8 months agoWalked this as part of a circular hike from Parkend. Well worth the little detour to walk up to this commanding viewpoint. There is free parking and from there it is a very short walk up to the view point - and the walk is circular if you wish.
There is a useful information board at the top showing you the names of hills that you can view. A very peaceful spot with really good views across the forest and beyond. Definitely worth a visit in autumn and you can make it part of a longer walk or bike ride as many tracks pass here.
