Description

Carmel Mission Basilica Museum is a remarkable monument combining Spanish colonial and Native American architecture. As the second Spanish mission in California, the site is filled with fascinating historical treasures.

The museum features the oldest Bible in California dating back to 1568, the state's first library and the personal reliquary cross of St. Junípero Serra. The Chapel of Our Lady of Bethlehem hides the oldest statue of Mary in California.

The distinctive arched vaults, thick adobe and bell tower with Spanish-Moorish influences create the unique atmosphere of this National Historic Landmark.
