Description
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a vast complex of over 80,000 acres combining wildlife with history—from the thousand-year-old redwoods of Muir Woods to the legendary prison island of Alcatraz.
Over 130 miles of trails lead through 19 ecosystems, the rocky cliffs of Lands End with views of shipwrecks, hidden beaches, and the ruins of Sutro Baths. Point Bonita Lighthouse, World War II forts, and Cold War missile sites create a fascinating mosaic of sites.
