Description

The statue of Saint Richard is an impressive bronze sculpture located at the bell tower of Chichester Cathedral. Made by Philip Jackson in 2000, it commemorates the patron saint of Sussex, who was bishop from 1245-1253 and was canonized in 1262.

The life-size statue stands on a pedestal made of Cornish granite, Welsh slate and Portland limestone. It is an important part of the city's cultural heritage and a reminder of medieval pilgrimages to the saint's relics, which were one of the most important pilgrimage sites in medieval England.
