Description

Ulugʻbek Madrasah is the oldest surviving madrasah of the Timurid dynasty, built in 1417 by the ruler and astronomer Ulugbek. The majestic facade of glazed bricks and colorful tiles with star motifs reflects the founder's passion for astronomy.

The interior impresses with muqarnas - stalactite arches connecting the earth with the sky, and geometric girikh patterns symbolizing the fusion of science and art. The inscription above the entrance proclaims the duty of Muslims to seek knowledge, reminding us of the role of this place as the intellectual center of the Silk Road.
