Twierdza Hiszpańska

Spanish Fortress is an impressive 16th century monument towering over the town of Hvar. This Gothic fortification with four circular towers and underground passageways hides a fascinating history - in 1571 it protected residents from Turkish attacks, and in 1579 lightning struck the powder magazine, causing a massive explosion.

The fortress walls offer breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the sea and the nearby Paklian islands. Inside you can admire a collection of amphoras and other artifacts from ancient and medieval times.
