Description

Trim Castle is an impressive medieval fortress, built between 1176 and 1220 by Hugh de Lacy, one of the most powerful Anglo-Norman lords in Ireland.

The unique 20-sided main tower design with nine-foot walls provided numerous observation points and maximum defensive space.

The castle witnessed many historical events - it hosted English monarchs, including Richard II and John, and even served as a prison for Prince Henry V. In the 15th century, it hosted meetings of the Irish Parliament.

For movie buffs, an added attraction is that the castle appeared in the film 'Braveheart'.
