Trendell’s Folly

Trendell's Folly is a fascinating historical monument located in Abingdon Abbey Gardens. This 19th-century structure, despite its name suggesting it is a folly (ornamental building), was probably built with ancient stones from St. Helena Church.

It stands on the grounds of the former Abingdon Abbey, founded in the 7th century, which was a significant ecclesiastical center and important landowner in the region. Strolling through the gardens, visitors can enjoy formal flowerbeds, Italianate paths and a picturesque ornamental lake.
