Description

Avlaki Gorge Trail is a scenic hiking trail on the Akrotiri Peninsula in northwestern Crete.

This 2-kilometer trail leads through a spectacular gorge, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. Along the way you'll discover fascinating caves, including Arkoudospilios, and the abandoned Katholiko Monastery - one of the oldest in Crete, founded in the 11th century by St. John the Hermit.

The trail is relatively easy, though steep and rocky in places. It's an ideal place for nature lovers, history buffs and birdwatchers, where you can admire rare species such as the Cretan lizard and a variety of wildflowers.
