Description
Paseo de las Estatuas is a charming promenade in the heart of Madrid's Retiro Park, decorated with 14 historic sculptures from the 18th century.
Each statue depicts important figures from Spanish history, including kings and queens, originally designed by Benedictine monk Martín Sarmiento in 1743.
Interesting fact: the sculptures were supposed to adorn the Royal Palace, but Queen Isabel de Farnesio had nightmares about their collapse, so they were scattered around the city. A walk among these majestic statues, surrounded by lush greenery, is the perfect way to combine relaxation with learning about Spanish culture.
