Description

Tom Tower is a majestic bell tower designed by Christopher Wren that serves as the main entrance to Christ Church in Oxford. It combines Gothic and Renaissance elements to create an architectural jewel of the city.

The tower conceals the famous Great Tom bell, which has rung 101 strokes every evening since World War II - symbolizing the 100 original scholars of the college plus one added in 1663.

It is not only a historical monument, but also a landmark that delights architecture and history lovers with its unique design and rich past.

avatarZen Cheung4 months agoTom's Tower in the central garden is one of the tourist attractions you can't miss. If you come here at noon when the sun is shining, you can enjoy a beautiful view. The students of the college will sit on the grass and enjoy the sunshine.
avatarJohna year agoIncredibly beautiful building with a beautiful garden and history. Great Tom, housed in the tower, is the loudest bell in Oxford. It weighs six and a quarter tons and was moved from the 12th-century Osney Abbey after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Aside from a student prank in 2002 when the clapper was lagged.
