Description
Toki Sarrofon is an octagonal trading dome dating back to 1534, which for centuries served as a currency exchange center on the Silk Road.
The smallest but highest of Bukhara's domes, it impresses with its 'four arches' architecture and fragments of mosaics with Koranic inscriptions. It was once bustling with mints serving merchants from China, India, and the Ottoman Empire.
Today, its historic vaults house a bustling bazaar selling carpets, ceramics, spices, and authentic souvenirs. Friendly artisans create an atmosphere conducive to peaceful shopping without pushy sales tactics.
