Description
The St. Gall Abbey Library is the oldest library in Switzerland and one of the most important monastery libraries in the world.
Founded in 612 by the Irish monk Otmar, it impresses with its impressive collection of 2,100 manuscripts from the 8th to 15th centuries and 1,650 incunabula.
The interior of the main hall, built in 1767 in the late Baroque style, is breathtaking. Since 1983, the entire abbey complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, highlighting its exceptional cultural and historical value.
