PRC02 SMI Lagoa do Fogo

PRC02 SMI Lagoa do Fogo is a fascinating hiking trail on the island of São Miguel in the Azores archipelago.

This 11-kilometer route takes you through scenic pastures to the shores of the spectacular 'Lake of Fire' - a caldera formed 15,000 years ago after the collapse of the Água de Pau volcano.

During the 4-hour hike, you'll discover endemic vegetation, steep cliffs and a pumice beach. From the Miradouro da Barrosa lookout point, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the lake and the island's northern coast.

Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring all your trash with you - this is a protected area with no facilities!
