Description
The Temple of Zeus Olympios in Athens is one of the most impressive monuments of ancient Greece.
Its construction took nearly 700 years - from the 6th century BC to the 2nd century AD, making it a witness to many historical eras. It originally had as many as 108 Corinthian-style columns, of which 15 remain today.
In its heyday, inside the temple was a chryselephantine statue of Zeus by Phidias - one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Walking among the monumental ruins, one can feel the power and majesty of the ancient religious cult.
