Description
The Augustus Temple is one of the best preserved Roman monuments in Pula. Built between 2 BC and 14 AD, this impressive structure is an excellent example of early imperial temple architecture.
Decorated with Corinthian columns, the temple survived centuries and even bombing during World War II. After reconstruction between 1945 and 1947, it serves as a lapidarium where a collection of ancient stone and bronze sculptures can be admired.
Dedicated to the goddess Roma and Emperor Augustus, it is a fascinating part of the historic Forum in Pula, allowing one to be transported back to the glory days of the Roman Empire.
