Statuia Sfintei Maria

Statuia Sfintei Maria is a unique monument in the heart of Timișoara that impresses with its Romanesque style and history. The marble statue of the Virgin Mary is placed under a canopy supported by six pillars.

The monument stands on the spot where György Dózsa, leader of the 1514 peasant uprising, was executed, according to legend. During the execution, the Virgin Mary reportedly appeared in the smoke, which was considered a miracle.
