Description

St. Martin's Church, Canterbury is the oldest church in Britain still used for religious purposes and the oldest existing parish in the English-speaking world.

This unique building combines Roman and Saxon architecture, with numerous Roman bricks incorporated into the walls.

The church has a fascinating history - it was the private chapel of Queen Bertha of Kent even before the arrival of St. Augustine of Canterbury in 597. Later, St. Augustine used it as his main missionary headquarters, beginning the Christianization of England.

As part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with Canterbury Cathedral and St. Augustine's Abbey, it is a remarkable testimony to the beginnings of Christianity in England.
