Description

St. Peter's Abbey is the oldest continuously operating Benedictine monastery in German-speaking areas, founded in 696 by St. Rupert.

This place combines a fascinating history with a variety of architectural styles, from Romanesque to Rococo. The famous Petersfriedhof cemetery is one of the oldest Christian burial sites in Europe, and the rock-cut catacombs remember the early Christian era.

The abbey boasts the oldest library in Austria with more than 100,000 volumes and strong ties to Mozart, who composed his Mass in C minor here.
